Job Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of the Field MEAL Officer, the MEAL Assistant is responsible for monitoring and evaluating all project activities.
Also, present clear and confidential data and information related to accountability and learning components.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Collection & Fieldwork
- Conduct household surveys, KIIs, FGDs, and observation checklists according to project M&E plans.
- Visit assigned locations in Homs or Damascus to collect accurate and timely data from beneficiaries and community members.
- Ensure all surveys are conducted using approved tools (KoBo, ODK, SurveyCTO, or paper forms when required).
- Verify respondent eligibility and obtain informed consent before data collection.
- Record qualitative feedback related to service access, protection, community needs, and project outcomes.
2. Data Quality & Compliance
- Ensure collected data is complete, clear, and aligned with project definitions and instructions.
- Immediately report errors, inconsistencies, or challenges in the field to the M&E Officer.
- Follow data protection standards, ensuring confidentiality and safe handling of all information.
- Apply gender-sensitive and protection-sensitive approaches when interacting with women, youth, PwD, and vulnerable groups.
3. Coordination & Communication
- Attend training and briefings on data collection tools, ethical standards, and survey methodology.
- Coordinate daily with the M&E Officer to receive assignments, submit completed surveys, and resolve technical issues.
- Communicate field challenges such as access constraints, community concerns, or security-related issues.
- Support team logistics, including scheduling visits, contacting community focal points, and distributing tokens if required.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Submit accurate daily or weekly progress updates based on assigned targets.
- Document field observations, challenges, and recommendations to support the improvement of data collection quality.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, or related fields is an asset.
- Previous experience as an enumerator or field data collector in humanitarian or development projects is preferred.
- Ability to use digital data collection tools (KoBoToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, or mobile apps).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when engaging with diverse and vulnerable groups.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet daily targets, and travel within assigned areas of Homs or Damascus.
- Respectful, trustworthy, and committed to ethical data collection principles.
Deliverables / Outputs:
- Completed and validated surveys submitted according to agreed daily/weekly targets.
- Clear documentation of challenges, field notes, and qualitative findings supporting the M&E team.
- Error-free datasets contributed to baseline, monitoring, or endline exercises.
